Comcast to hire 400 in Bay Area
April 19, 2007
Comcast Corp. will hire 400 new employees in the Bay Area in the next 90 days as it markets its expanded services package amid new competition.
The majority of the jobs are front-end technicians and customer-service representatives. The locations range from Santa Rosa to San Jose.
The company said that with the new jobs, it will have added 2,500 full-time positions since 2003. The company expects to have about 6,000 Bay Area employees by the end of next year.
Comcast has expanded its services to offer video, high-speed Internet and telephone services.
It faces new competition in the Bay Area from AT&T Inc., which is rolling out its new cable TV service in addition to telephone and high-speed Internet service, and now wireless, too, following its acquisition of Bell South, which controlled 40 percent of Cingular Wireless (AT&T had 60 percent).
